About this design
An engagement invitation for a sagai, ring ceremony or roka, painted in contemporary Pichwai-style gouache: deep velvet crimson, rani pink, marigold and emerald, with antique gold on ivory.
Guests find a closed velvet ring box on ivory silk. One tap and the lid lifts back on its hinge, a solitaire rises from the velvet slot, a glint runs across the diamond and sparkles burst, then the view pushes through the ring into a garlanded haveli courtyard with the couple's names.
Inside, the families' blessing, the ring ceremony on a jeweller's tag with directions, and the evening laid out like a jewellery tray: welcome, ring exchange, dinner and dance, each in its own velvet compartment. A celebration painting sits in a gold locket, the countdown is set in four gemstones, and replies come in through a satin-lined RSVP. Headings catch a sweep of gold leaf and pictures appear as velvet cloth slides off them. Instrumental music starts with the opening and lives in a little gem button.
