About this design
Kasavu Kalyanam is a Malayali Hindu wedding invitation painted like a Kerala morning: jasmine white paper, the flat woven gold of a kasavu border, banana-leaf green and the blue-green of the backwaters.
Guests first see a pencil sketch of the backwater. One tap and the water, the palms and a soft gold sun are washed in, a country boat glides across leaving ripples, strings of jasmine drop from above, and the sheet lifts away like a page of a sketchbook.
Inside, the families' note rests on a folded kasavu cloth. The day is a journey down a winding channel, with the muhurtham and thalikettu, the sadya and the reception each moored at its own jetty. The date, time, venue and dress code are served on a banana leaf, a countdown hangs on a string of jasmine buds, and guests reply and see who is coming before the far shore of palms and a houseboat.
