About this design
Mithila Vivah in Hindi: the Madhubani (मधुबनी) folk-painting wedding card, worded the way a family from Bihar or eastern Uttar Pradesh writes a विवाह निमंत्रण. Respectful, warm and homely, with the words guests expect: शुभ विवाह, हल्दी, जयमाला, फेरे, विदाई and प्रीतिभोज.
The design is the same as the original: cream paper, bold double black outlines and flat red, yellow, green and indigo. The opening painting draws and colours itself, the three celebrations sit in painted panels, the date and शुभ मुहूर्त rest inside a kohbar ring, and a four-colour countdown, RSVP with a guest list and instrumental music follow. No deity is drawn or named.
