About this design
The silk wedding. The invitation arrives as a folded Kanjivaram sari with a string of jasmine laid across it. One tap and it opens fold by fold, from the maroon body to the temple border and the rich pallu with the couple's names woven in, before the whole length is drawn aside.
Inside, the page is the sari itself: arakku maroon silk, a parrot green border with temple triangles down both edges, and flat mustard zari in rudraksham beads, peacock eyes, swans and mangoes. The pictures are vintage print vignettes on aged cream paper, each sewn on like an old textile label.
The nichayathartham, the muhurtham and the reception are laid out as three silks, one over another. The details read like an old printed wedding notice, the countdown hangs as a necklace of gold coins, and guests reply on a paper slip. Made for Tamil and south Indian weddings.
