About this design
Sehra in Bengali: a biyer dawat for Bangladeshi and Bengali Muslim families, from the Bismillah and "মহান আল্লাহর রহমত ও মুরুব্বিদের দোয়ায়" to a dua for the newly married couple.
It opens on a curtain of beli (jasmine) strands threaded with small roses, like a groom’s sehra. Tap, and the strands part from the middle to reveal a courtyard at dusk. Inside, each panel of white muslin is sewn with a running stitch as it arrives: the আকদ and ওয়ালিমা paintings in embroidery hoops, the date, time and place with directions, a countdown and RSVP.
