About this design
Shila Kalyana in Kannada, the language this design was drawn for: a lagna patrike worded the way a Kannada family writes a maduve amantrana, asking guests to come with their whole family, be seated before the muhurtha, bless the bride and groom and stay for the wedding oota.
The page is pale soapstone with engraved Kannada lettering, and its only colours are turmeric yellow and kumkum red. Guests offer arishina and kumkuma to a carved lotus and the slab is lifted. Inside are the families' note on a shasana tablet, the arishina shastra, the muhurtha with the dhare and the oota with the aratakshate as bands of a temple wall, the date and place on a star-shaped plinth, a countdown in four lotus medallions, RSVP, a guest list and instrumental music.
