About this design
Pelli Pandiri in Telugu, the language this design was drawn for: a pelli patrika where every line guests read is in warm, respectful Telugu, worded the way a family writes a subhalekha, asking guests to come with their whole family and bless the couple.
The Kalamkari opening is the same: a brass kalash on bare cotton, one tap, and a tree of life grows and parts like a wedding canopy. Inside, the pasupu ceremony that makes the bride a pellikuthuru, the pelli with its sumuhurtham and talambralu, and the vindu each hang from a bough of one tree. The date, muhurtham and venue sit on madder red with a white muggu and a countdown, followed by the RSVP form and the list of who is coming. Dates and times are typed by the host, so they read as a Telugu wedding card words them.
