About this design
Phulkari Vyah looks hand-embroidered on off-white handloom cloth, in mustard, fuchsia, red, orange and emerald thread. It opens on plain cloth with a pencilled diamond medallion: one tap and coloured threads stitch it in from the centre, a dhol beat lands, and the cloth is swept aside like a dupatta with tassels.
Inside, the couple stand in an embroidered panel with a diamond border and hanging tassels. A note from the families is sewn on as a patch, and the celebrations run down the page as a dupatta: Sangeet and dhol night, the wedding with its pheras, and the reception dinner, each an eight-sided embroidered patch. Then the day, time and place, a countdown of four stitched diamonds, a mustard band about food and dancing, an RSVP patch and a list of who is coming.
Made for Punjabi Hindu weddings with dhol, bhangra and plenty of food. Sangeet and reception can be left out, and festive Punjabi instrumental music plays once it is opened.
