About this design
Sehra opens on a curtain of hanging jasmine strands threaded with small blush roses, like the flower veil a groom wears, with the Bismillah and the couple’s names on a muslin plate. Tap, and the strands sweep aside from the centre outward, each one swinging past and settling, to reveal an Awadhi courtyard at dusk.
Inside, every section is a panel of white muslin. As it comes into view a running stitch sews its border from the top down both sides, chikankari bootis bloom in the corners, and then the words arrive. The Nikah and the walima paintings sit in embroidery hoops, with the day, time and place, directions, a countdown in small hoops, a dua for the couple and an RSVP.
Made for South Asian Muslim weddings; the walima can be left out.
