About this design
Hina Bagh in Gujarati: a mehndi invitation in the bride's family's own warm, teasing voice, not a formal kankotri. Guests are told "હીંચકે આવી બેસો", reminded that "મહેંદીનો રંગ જેટલો ઘેરો, પ્રેમ એટલો જ ગાઢ", and asked to come whenever it suits and stay until the colour sets.
The design is the same henna garden: a round mandala in fresh paste that dries, flakes away and leaves a deep maroon stain, then soft sage green with fine henna-brown line work, coral, marigold and cream. The afternoon hangs on garden swings (મહેંદી, ઢોલકી અને ગીતો, બંગડીઓ અને ચાટ), the day, time and place are stacked like glass bangles with a countdown in four of them, and guests reply on a lace-edged card. The dholki, the chaat and the dress code can be left out.
