About this design
Kathputli Byah in Hindi: the puppet wedding for Rajasthani and Marwari families who want their shadi card to make people grin. Every line is in lively everyday Hindi with a little Rajasthani colour, from the drummer's "मुनादी" to a closing "पधारो सा!", and the string jokes are rewritten around the डोर rather than translated.
The design is the same Jodhpur-blue puppet theatre. A tap, two beats on the dholak, the leheriya blind rolls up and the bride and groom puppets drop in to dance. Then the wedding is told scene by scene on three small stages (घूमर की रात, बारात, फेरे), a camel caravan carries the date, the muhurat, the venue and the dress code, four mirror-work discs count down, and guests book their seat on the page. The Ghoomar night, the Baraat and the dress code can be left out.
